★ Our Story

Built by someone who lived every mile of this road.

Thirty years hauling freight, surviving DOT audits, and watching good carriers get buried under paperwork taught us one thing: compliance shouldn't be this hard.

The Beginning
1994

From the driver's seat to your dashboard.

My name is Robert Caldwell. I started driving in 1994 out of Orlando, Florida — CDL in my pocket, a used Kenworth T600, and a load of frozen chicken heading to Atlanta. Over the next decade I built a small fleet, learned the freight business the hard way, and got my first surprise DOT inspection on I-95 outside Jacksonville. I passed, barely, and it scared me straight.

"The inspector found three expired medical certificates in my files. I had no system. I was just hoping nothing expired."

That was the moment I realized compliance wasn't something you could manage from memory. By 2002 I was running 14 trucks and spending more time chasing paperwork than growing the business. I hired a part-time compliance coordinator — at $2,200 a month — just to keep our driver files current and our DOT numbers clean.

Over 30 years I've survived four DOT audits, two consent agreements, one near-revocation of authority, and more roadside inspections than I can count. Every painful experience taught me exactly what carriers need to stay compliant — and what happens when they fall behind.

In 2023 I sold my last truck and spent a year building the system I wished I'd had from the beginning. Not a generic business tool. Not a spreadsheet. A purpose-built DOT compliance platform that thinks the way a veteran carrier thinks — because it was built by one.

DOT Compliance Watch is that system. And unlike the consultants who charged me $350 an hour to tell me what I already knew, we charge a flat monthly fee that's less than a single DOT fine.

1994
First CDL, First Load
Pulled my first load out of Orlando, Florida with a used Kenworth T600. Zero compliance knowledge. Full tank of fuel and a lot of optimism.
📋
1999
First DOT Roadside Inspection
Level I inspection on I-95 outside Jacksonville. Three expired medical certificates. Passed by the skin of our teeth. Changed everything.
🏢
2002
Built a Fleet of 14 Trucks
Grew to 14 units running Southeast lanes. Compliance costs were eating 8% of revenue. Hired a coordinator at $2,200/month just to survive.
⚠️
2008
Survived a Full DOT Audit
FMCSA showed up for a full compliance review. Two drivers had gaps in drug testing records. Conditional rating. 90 days to fix it or lose authority.
💡
2015
ELD Mandate Preparation
Spent two years preparing 22 trucks for the ELD mandate. Tested six platforms. Realized there was no single tool that handled ELD compliance AND the full driver qualification file.
🔨
2023
Started Building DOT Compliance Watch
Sold the last truck. Spent 12 months building the platform I wished had existed in 1999. Every feature based on a real audit finding or roadside violation.
🚀
2024
DOT Compliance Watch Launches
Launched with two plans — Basic for self-managed carriers and Full for those who want a specialist handling everything. Built on 30 years of hard-won experience.
Why We Exist

The trucking industry deserves better tools.

Small carriers face the same FMCSA requirements as mega-fleets — but without the compliance departments, the lawyers, and the enterprise software budgets. One missed drug test or expired medical certificate can cost more than a year of our subscription.

We built DOT Compliance Watch to level that playing field. Whether you're a single owner-operator or running 50 trucks, you deserve the same compliance management the big carriers have.

🛡️

Built on Real Audit Experience

Every module reflects actual FMCSA audit findings — not theoretical compliance requirements.

Our Commitment

We only win when you stay compliant.

We don't lock you into long contracts. We don't nickel-and-dime you for extra users or extra trucks. A flat monthly rate because compliance management should be predictable — and because when you pass your next DOT audit, you'll tell every carrier you know about us.

That's our growth strategy. Do the work so well that word spreads through the industry the same way bad news does — fast and everywhere.
